The project involved enforcing a Korean-developed user authentication UI patent against some of the world’s largest smartphone manufacturers. The key challenge was not only legal enforcement, but also building a monetization strategy capable of competing against global technology companies with extensive financial, legal, and technical resources.
After early settlement discussions reached an impasse, litigation was initiated in April 2018. The campaign required coordinated litigation strategy, funding structure, claim positioning, expert counsel selection, and long-term licensing planning across multiple jurisdictions and counterparties.
Over the course of the campaign, Firstface reached settlements with major smartphone manufacturers and established a foundation for further patent monetization. The company is now expanding its licensing program to global laptop manufacturers using the same core technology.
This case demonstrates how a focused IP startup can transform a specialized technology patent into a global monetization campaign through litigation strategy, financing, legal execution, and licensing expansion.
Next projects.
